Benjamin Hollingsworth, a thoroughly postmodern artist transcending art-historical movements with ambition and raw originality, is a self-taught conceptual artist and a former professional soccer player. When his career was cut short following a traumatic foot injury, he turned his full attention to large-scale paintings, working in a variety of mixed media, including oils, acrylics, spray paint, wood, glass and plastics. Hollingsworth has been a featured artist for GenArt, a US-national representation company focusing on emerging artists, and was selected to donate art for Christie’s 2010 Inaugural Green Auction. Renowned muralist Edward Knippers calls Hollingsworth “an artist of rare thoughtful power who can stir the emotions and delight the eyes.” Writer Marie Brown (Vs. Magazine) writes, “Former professional soccer player Benjamin Hollingsworth is a self-taught artist who has blazed into the neo-folk art movement with his effervescent raw mixed media installations and large-scale paintings. You will love Hollingsworth’s gutsy paintings that play with elements of identity and exude flashes of rebirth and transition.” Born in Concord, North Carolina, Benjamin spent his childhood and young adulthood in Charleston, South Carolina. He currently splits his time between Charleston and New York City.
